Don't Start a Diet site if Your Hobby is Cakemaking !
By: Mark Brading
Site builder review
Thinking about starting your own website but worried that
You don't really exactly how to go about it and how to present your topic
You're not sure how to choose and register a domain name
You don't know how to build a site or how to get it on the Internet
If you are a novice to site building then before you build your first site whatever you want your site for, be it leisure, pleasure or business, there are a few things that you need to consider before taking the plunge.
Think carefully about what you actually want your website for
Find a domain name (Your web address) that suits your interest or business
Find a web host (the people that actually put your site on the web)
The first may seem obvious but is worth some consideration.
Some people start a site on one topic with a domain name, graphics, several pages of painstakingly written content etc, only to find themselves drifting off in a different direction after a while as the original "niche " that they had thought would be a profitable venture, either personally or financially gives way to there real pleasure or passion.
Don't start a diet site if your real interest is in cake making!
Sit down with a pen and paper and write down at least 10 ideas for a site then narrow it down until you eventually find a topic that suits you. Even if you are in business and think it's obvious what your site should be about still write down ten different angles perspectives or niches and narrow it down until you find the one that suits you and will make your business work.
The key to this is research and the best research that I've found is sitesell's "search it" and best of all it's free, that's my sort of price!
Although it is tempting to jump right in, register a domain name and start writing without too much thought or consideration (exactly what I did with my first site and regretted it soon after)
A day spent brainstorming topics and ideas for your site before starting work or even registering a domain name will pay you back many times over.
A good host will not only put your site on the web but also will also register your domain for you and give you all the tools to research, edit, build, promote, and drive free traffic to your site. There are many hosting companies that offer some of these features such as "go daddy", "yahoo geo cities", " host4profit", but the only one that I have found that offers all of these plus many more is the one that I use myself "Sitesell".
The only drawback to this incredibly comprehensive service is that the billing is yearly rather than monthly. But if you can cope with this then this company is the only resource that you will need and supplies a comprehensive guide as well as online and onsite help and support.
Whether you use this or another host the best way for a newbie to build a site with relative ease and no knowledge of html, or anything else for that matter is to use the block by block system where it is almost impossible to make a mistake.
You just choose which block you want, headline, text, and link, upload pictures etc, fill in your text or link, click ok then go on to the next block. When you have finished all the blocks in click on the web click on the build it button and they will automatically appear on your site.
Building a web site should be as easy as possible.
You need to take care when choosing a host as this and your researched choice of topic are the most important choices to make regarding your first site, get it right and it will be as easy as surfing the web but a lot more fun. Just do a little research and it will all fall into place.
